WHEREAS the Connecticut Republican Assembly (CTRA) believes in the Judeo-Christian foundation of moral law,
WHEREAS CTRA believes that the concept of self-government begins with governing ourselves first, then our family, community, state, and nation,
WHEREAS CTRA believes in the rights of parents to pursue a quality education for their children, supports parental choice to create competition among the schools, and believes that no school or teachers’ union can compromise the education of our children or advance a particular political agenda at the expense of our future generations’ educations,
WHEREAS CTRA believes in the supremacy of the power of individual citizens over the powers they choose to delegate to the state,
WHEREAS CTRA affirms the right of individuals and parents to make their own medical decisions for themselves and their children based on scientific evidence presented by the federal CDC and no other entity independent from the federal government,
WHEREAS health officials from Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania are considering forming or joining a regional Centers for Disease Control (CDC) entity independent from the federal government, focused on vaccine policy,
WHEREAS such an effort would be legally indefensible and immediately subject to constitutional challenge, place Connecticut in conflict with federal authority, expose our state to significant litigation risk and potential damages, and further erode the religious and parental rights of Connecticut families,
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Connecticut Republican Assembly strongly opposes any attempt by Connecticut officials to form, join, or bind our state to a regional Centers for Disease Control (CDC) entity with other states and we ask that the CT Department of Public Health and state leadership:
- Cease and desist all discussions, negotiations, or agreements regarding participation in a “regional CDC,”
- Affirm that Connecticut’s public health policy will remain under the jurisdiction of the Connecticut General Assembly, subject to limits of the U.S. Constitution and federal law, and
- Commit to upholding the rights of Connecticut families and preventing further unlawful erosion of religious freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.
Resolution passed by unanimous vote by the CTRA Board of Directors on September 29, 2025.
